Hungary to Delegate Members to All LEN Committees

For the first time in the history of the European Swimming League (LEN), Hungary will delegate a representative to all of the organisation’s committees and commissions, the Hungarian Swimming Federation (MÚSZ) said over the weekend.

“Hungary’s level of prestige and influence within the LEN has never been as significant as it is in the current period,” the MÚSZ quoted Tünde Szabó, the state secretary for sports, as saying after a meeting of the LEN Bureau.

LEN’s technical swimming committee will include coach Ferenc Kovácshegyi, while three-time Olympic gold medallist Tamás Molnár will be representing Hungary on the technical water polo committee. Hungary will delegate retired diver Ildikó Kelemen to the technical diving committee and referee Judit Vizi to the technical artistic swimming committee, while referee and former athlete Rita Lázár will sit on the technical open water swimming committee. Other Hungarian delegates include József Fürstner, who will continue to serve on the medical committee, as well as two-time Olympic gold medallist water polo player Norbert Madaras, who will be a member of the marketing commission, the MÚSZ said.

Szabó said the decision to approve all of Hungary’s candidates to the various committees and commissions was a testament to the efforts of Hungarian sports diplomacy as well as the success of the sporting events hosted by the country in recent years. It was also confirmed at the meeting that Budapest will host the next LEN congress in late September 2021.
